e ven though it's just words on
t hin pieces of paper, It's louder and more

2. Apology poem

This is just to say
I have taken
the books
that were in your bag

and which you were probably
saving
for later

forgive me
they were so interesting
so small

and yet so literate

3. Bio poem

I, Felicity

Independant, feisty, dramatic, down to earth

Sibling of Lensi, Angelica, Charlotte, Sebastiaan and Esmeralda

Lover of cats, food and cafeine

Who feels neglected real fast

Who needs to be understood

Who fears spiders and poverty

Who would like to see more love in her life

A resident of Dreischor

Welcome you to my poem.

4. Picture headline poem

5. Comparison poem

Shall I compare thee to a sky so blue,
the sky can't be half as warming as you,
for clouds can appear on a sunny day,
and you my dear love, would chase them away.
Heaven is far away, I can not touch,
you are close, that's why I love you so much.
I can enjoy all that blue in the sky,
But it can not always keep me as dry.
As dry and as warm as you can my dear,
so with you, no thunderstorm would strike me with fear.

6. Quote

'Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words'

This is my favourite quote because there is so much truth in it.
sometimes it's hard for people to write down how they feel, but through poetry it's so clear what the emotions behind the words are.

7. Favourite poem

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on the snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush.
I am the swift uplifting rush,
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

-Mary Frye

This is the most heartbreaking poem i've ever read.
someone who passed away can tell so much to the living with this poem.
And I love the way the writer of this poem uses a paradox, someone is obviously dead,
but saying she is in everything that shows life, but doesn't live.
This poem is down to earth (no pun intended) but also makes you think about things in life we don't seem to care for enough.

8. leisure poem

William Henry Davies (1871 – 1940)

What is this life, if full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare

No time to stand beneath the boughs,
And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to have a look of what's yonder,
there's not even time to ponder.

A poor life this is, if full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare.

9.picture shape poem

                             my                         cat
                         or my                         kitty
                     whatever                      you say.
is so cute and pretty, I can't look away.
his twinkling eyes are just looking at me,
what is he thinking and what does he see?
would he be waiting for food or a hug?
or is he looking to chase down a bug?
he is a lover, not a fighter, and
I am a poet,  not just
                                    some writer.

10. Blackout poem

11. Adjective-noun poem
Cats
cats are cute
cats are cute, soft
are cute, soft, furry
cute, soft, furry, crazy
monsters.

12. picture poem
There's a girl in the mirror and she's looking at me,
I can't help but wonder, what does she see?

Does she see my joy, by the width of my smile?
does she see my kindness, does she think me vile?

what the hell is she doing at my place,
and why do we have such a similar face?
I'll leave her in that mirror, safe and sound,
you wouldn't want two of me walking around.

13. button poem

On a long black dress, safe in her house, it's worn by my sister.
Belle with her long legs, awaiting some mister,
She's secretly using him, while she dreams of his care.
Don't point out her weakness, no don't you dare.
The book that she'll read is called 'all that I need'.
She's now cooking dinner for the kids she will feed.
thinking of one man, or maybe one other,
nobody knows, and this button doesn't bother.

My poetry lesson:

Opening
5 min.
Read own poem to the class:  'My dear kitty, with its furry hair. Talks to my other cat when i'm not there. When he walks in the room, he does not make a sound. But he really starts talking, when i'm not around' and ask the students what my poem said.
Then show a slide of animal pictures.
Lesson goal: At the end of class, students will know how to make a poem about an animal of their choice.

Middle
10 min.
Theorie uitleg -> Pick any animal to write your poem about. Everything you write in your poem about that animal has to be congruent with the charasteristics of that animal's behaviour.
For example: 'The bear  in the wild, can roar really loud' etcetera .
You may use this website to find rhyme words.  Bron:  http://www.rhymezone.com/
The poem has to consist of 4 grammatically correct sentences.

ask whether there are any questions, and if the assignment is understood.
Tell the students they are allowed to ask the teacher for help as well if they really can't figure it out on their own.
Exercise
25 min.
Students have time to come up with a poem and the teacher assists if nessecary to come up with an opening sentence.
Students work in pairs to secure a maximal creative platform.
When they are done, they have time to extend their poem and add sentences to it, or perhaps give it a funny twist.
End
10 min.
We read as many poems as time allows us to, every student has to read their own poem to practice speaking too. The teacher will correct any flaws or mistakes, but focus on compliments for creativity.
At the end of the lesson the students get their homework assignment for next week.

Animal pictures required for this assignment -->  in class:
